Yesterday while working for Bridgwater College I took the Level 3 Outdoor Adventure Education and Leadership students to Mill on the Brue outdoor activity centre as part of the Sports and Services Careers Day. It was great to go back to the centre after 10 years and see some familiar faces. The two years I spent working here left me with some fond memories.
The morning session involved a presentation by centre director Tricia Rawlingson-plant and a tour of the facility. These two activities gave the students a background into the development of the centre and their ethos as well as some industry background through Tricia's various affiliations with industry inspecting bodies and insurance brokers. A tour of the centre cemented the ethos, aims and objectives by showing the students the organic gardens, the activity sites and the environmental projects.
Following a delicious home grown lunch in the long house the students had the opportunity to ride the 'Zuper Zip'. The centre has recently had a second, slightly longer zip wire added to keep up with demand for this popular activity.
Overall the day was a huge success leaving the students inspired to apply for jobs following completion of their course.
